How to use: Datto Workplace source

This page covers the parts specific to migrating from Datto Workplace. The wider flow, preview, upload, verify, sync and reporting, is the same for every source and is covered in the main how-to guide.

1. Connect the tool to Datto Workplace

Datto Workplace is connected once per computer under Settings > API settings. You will need your Datto Workplace region, your cell number, and a Client ID and Secret from a Datto Workplace API integration. The Datto Workplace API setup guide covers exactly how to get those, how to share the right data with the integration, and where to enter them.

Use Test connection in that window. A report of projects found confirms both that the credentials are correct and that the integration has been shared with the data you intend to migrate, as covered in the setup guide.

2. Your projects list themselves

Create a job with Job > New. As soon as the job opens, the tool lists your Datto Workplace projects automatically on the left. There is nothing to import or type. Select a project to set it up.

3. Choose a destination for each project

With a project selected, pick where its files should go on the right: a SharePoint site and library, or a person's OneDrive. Browse drills into the existing destination folders or lets you create a new one, so you never have to type an address. Click Apply to this project, then set up the next one. Each project can go to a different destination.

4. Copy only part of a project (optional)

To migrate just one folder of a large project, set a Source subfolder on the right. Two buttons sit beside it:

Browse lists the project's folders straight from Datto Workplace and lets you pick one by clicking down through them, so the path is spelled exactly right.
Test checks a path you have typed against Datto Workplace and, if it does not match, shows you the real folder names at the point it could not find. The usual cause is a straight apostrophe where Datto Workplace stores a curly one.

There is also a contents only option beside the subfolder box. With it off, the subfolder itself is recreated at the destination; with it on, only the contents of that subfolder land at the destination, without the folder around them. Leave it off unless you specifically want the contents lifted out.

Scoped runs are partial by design. A run limited to a subfolder is a copy of that folder, not of the whole project, and the tool says so loudly in the log. A later full Sync will produce exactly the same destination paths, so a scoped test run and a later full run fit together cleanly with no duplicates.

5. Your Datto Workplace data is never modified

The tool only ever reads from Datto Workplace. It cannot create, modify, rename, move or delete anything there, and there is no Datto Workplace write or delete operation available to it at all. Your users can keep working in Datto Workplace throughout the migration.

6. How it paces itself against Datto Workplace

The Datto Workplace API limits how quickly it can be read. Rather than hardcoding a guess, Liscaragh Migrate learns the actual limit for your account as the run starts and paces itself to sit just under it, reporting what it settled on in plain language in the log. It re-learns per account, so it adapts to each client rather than assuming they are all the same. You do not need to configure any of this.
